History
On October 8th, 2007, Kappa Alpha Pi (KAPi) was founded by a group of dedicated undergraduate pre-law students at the University of Michigan. Driven by a desire for a more close-knit community, these high-achieving students disaffiliated from Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity International and embarked on a journey to create a new fraternity. Today, KAPi has grown into a respected network of over 7 dynamic chapters at prestigious institutions nationwide.
At the fraternity's inaugural meeting on October 9, 2007, the name Kappa Alpha Pi was chosen to embody the organization's values and aspirations. Each letter holds special significance, representing the core principles that continue to guide KAPi's members. Kappa, derived from the Greek word "κακουχία" (hardship), serves as a reminder of the challenges that brought the founding members together and their determination to create a new fraternity. Alpha, from the Greek word "αδελφότητα" (brotherhood), celebrates the strong bonds of friendship and camaraderie that have helped the fraternity thrive and overcome adversity. Pi, taken from the Greek word "πρόοδο" (progress), stands as a testament to the fraternity's commitment to continuous growth and improvement for the benefit of current and future members.
The three letters symbolize the transition from the past to the future, united by the enduring bond of fraternalism that underlies KAPi's core identity. This powerful connection among members is a testament to the resilience and unity of KAPi's community.
